Skil Controls Choose Brass for High Precision Components

Skil Controls have chosen wrought brass for a number of internal components in their extensive range of failsafe electrically operated actuators for valve and damper automation in remote and hazardous environments.

There are many reasons for the choice of brass for these high precision components.  In the case of magnetically operating components such as the dual oscillating pump systems and the solenoid valve, the non-magnetic properties of brass were found desirable when compared to the high comparative costs of Stainless Steel. Also, as with Stainless constructed items, no additional treatment to the natural finish of the brass components is required after machining, thus preventing oxidation and eventual contamination of the closed loop hydraulic system.

The good engineering properties of brass ensure that all components have the strength to withstand the impact and seismic forces maintaining the equipment’s operational integrity. This applies during both developmental testing and later in the field, often where human safety is reliant on this.

Finally the speed and ease with which free-cutting brass machines, ensures that Skil equipment is very competitively priced and is constructed from recyclable materials.
